The slope, or gradient, of a line can tell quite a mathematical story. At its simplest, the slope tells you how fast a line is rising or falling on a coordinate graph. This tiny tidbit of information will help you understand the data behind the line, specifically, how the variables are related.

If the slope is positive, that means the line will rise as it moves from left to right, indicating that the variables increase together. For instance, a line that compares the amount of time you study versus your grade point average will have a positive slope, or rising line. Obviously, the more you study, the higher your G.P.A. will be!
If the slope of a line is negative, that means that the line will fall as it moves from left to right, showing that the variables have an inverse relationship. For example, a line that compares the temperature outside with the amount of time you spend outside will probably have a negative slope. The colder it gets, the less time you want to spend outside.
Thermogravimetric analysis or thermal gravimetric analysis (TGA) is a method of thermal analysis in which the mass of a sample is measured over time as the temperature changes. This measurement provides information about physical phenomena, such as phase transitions, absorption, adsorption and desorption; as well as chemical phenomena including chemisorptions, thermal decomposition,. A line through the point (-2,-3) with undefined slope is the vertical line through that point. WIN one of 10 Mac in a Sac Polar down jackets worth £79.99!
